Children's Orthodontics & Braces
People usually come in to see the orthodontist in their teen years, once their adult teeth have settled into place and are in need of some straightening. But, sometimes children as young as seven can be recommended to us for what's called interceptive treatment therapy.
What happens at my first visit?
This is a time for orthodontists to listen to patient concerns and to provide an orthodontic examination. The orthodontist will likely be able to indicate whether or not treatment is needed and if needed, when the best time to start treatment would be. Typical steps prior to beginning treatment include gathering orthodontic records to provide specific information to tailor a treatment plan for that patient (see orthodontic records below).
Often, this is a time when the doctor and staff discuss fees for orthodontic care, general payment options, and insurance benefits.
Depending on the kind of orthodontic help you need, we can fit your child with a wide variety of braces that call less attention to their treatment – and more attention to their individual sense of style and fun – including:
- Clear or tooth-colored brackets
- Interchangeable wires or elastics, in every color of the rainbow
- Removable retainers
